March 3rd, 2021: Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio are delighted to reveal that their multiplayer survival game Valheim has sold more than five million units, just a month after launching on Steam Early Access! The success of the indie viking game continues unabated after it surpassed 500,000 peak concurrent players last week, one of only five games in Steam history to do so. It’s all-time peak player count is currently behind only CS:GO, Dota 2, PUBG and Cyberpunk 2077.

Valheim continues to attract critical and player acclaim, with over 115,000 positive user reviews on Steam. It has also been climbing the ranks of the 250 top reviewed games of all time on the platform, now sitting at number 39. On Twitch, Valheim has maintained a steady stream of viewers, and fans have now spent more than 35M hours watching Valheim gameplay, and over 16,266 years playing.

Iron Gate Studio has already revealed a living Early Access roadmap, promising new biomes, new enemies, and improvements to combat, ships and more. Created by Iron Gate Studio, and developed on Linux, Valheim began as a one man passion project from CEO Richard Svensson in 2018, and the team was expanded to five by 2020. Coffee Stain, also headquartered in Skövde, came on board as publisher in 2019.

Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio on the success of Valheim. “Thanks everybody! Your response is amazing and we’re excited to continue improving the experience, as well as adding whatever Odin compels us to!”

"Five million units is a huge milestone for any game, and to achieve this in four weeks is remarkable. We are incredibly proud to be by Iron Gate's side as they continue to make history with Valheim, and we too are looking forward to the Hearth and Home update." said Albert Säfström, CEO, Coffee Stain Publishing.

Coffee Stain Publishing launched in 2017, the team has worked with a select number of titles, including the critically acclaimed arcade shooter Huntdown, coming to Steam soon, and Deep Rock Galactic, which surpassed two million units sold earlier this year. Satisfactory, the otherworldly factory builder, developed and published by Coffee Stain, currently in Early Access, will soon launch its highly anticipated Update 4, and Midnight Ghost Hunt, the viral 4v4 prop hunt game, is ramping up for more frequent public alpha tests leading up to launch.

Valheim is now available for $19.99 on Steam Early Access for PC and Linux.
